Cambridge Language Sciences
My work has focused mainly on the evolution and diversity of modern humans, Homo sapiens. This research has involved a range of disciplines, including human palaeontology, evolutionary genetics, behavioural ecology, linguistics and archaeology. I currently have field projects in Libya (prehistory), India (anthropology & genetics) and Kenya (palaeoanthropology). The diversity of humans is a central research topic, particularly the role of behavioural, reproductive and cultural factors (including language) in shaping how humans moved from a small population in Africa to a diverse, global one.
