English Profile is a collaborative programme designed to enhance the learning, teaching and assessment of English worldwide. The aim is to create a ‘profile’ or set of Reference Level Descriptions for English linked to the Common European Framework (CEF). These will provide detailed information about the language that learners can be expected to demonstrate at each of the six levels of the CEF, offering a clear benchmark for progress that will inform curricula development as well as the development of courses and test material to support learners, teachers and other professionals involved in the teaching of English as a foreign language.  To achieve this aim English Profile is collecting  a corpus of learner language which will allow researchers to gain empirical evidence of what learners can do at each level, so that our findings can be as accurate as possible. Please see www.englishprofile.org for further information.

Every February, English Profile holds a seminar in Cambridge, where academics, teachers and assessors who are involved in English Profile research present their latest findings. We encourage anyone involved in relevant research to attend, and we invite them also to present their findings if they wish to. This year the seminar will be held on the 7th and 8th of February at the Cass centre, hosted by Cambridge University Press; please sign up via the English Profile website.

There is some sponsorship available for students to cover registration. For more information please email Julia Harrison, jxharrison@cambridge.org.
