PANDEMIC FRENCH POETRY: RECOVERING IN THE 14TH AND 21ST CENTURY

Lockdowns and plagues are nothing new. In the fourteenth century Europe, death and suffering from bubonic plague drove people to confinement at home, waiting for the epidemic to pass. In this talk we will discuss the longer-term, complex work to be done, in healthcare, medicine, art, and in society more generally, as we learn from lockdown and literature.

Though artificial intelligence is ubiquitous in our homes and workplaces, there is widespread misunderstanding of what it really is. Join us for this public lecture as Neil Lawrence, DeepMind Professor of Machine Learning, encourages us to reframe our view of AI.

SPEAKING AND BEING WITH AUTHOR KUBRA GUMUSAY
In this lecture and performance, writer Kübra Gümüsay will share insights on how language shapes the way we think, perceive the world and the political as well as cultural implications. She will be accompanied by a musician (TBC) to both intellectually but also artistically stimulate the audience to change their perspective and approach to how we see this world, talk to and about one another.

What we do

Cambridge Language Sciences is an Interdisciplinary Research Centre at the University of Cambridge. Our virtual network connects researchers from five schools across the university as well as other world-leading research institutions. Our aim is to strengthen research collaborations and knowledge transfer across disciplines in order to address large-scale multi-disciplinary research challenges relating to language research.
