About
Javier Moreno-Rivero is a researcher in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, at the University of Cambridge, who focuses on translation policies of minoritized languages. He holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in translation (Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Universitat d'Alacant) and applied Spanish linguistics (Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo and Instituto Cervantes). He has held various academic positions in France (Rouen), the United Kingdom (Heriot-Watt, Sheffield and Open University) and the United States, where he was a Lecturer in Spanish at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) prior to joining Cambridge. In 2018, he was appointed Assessor in Spanish Translation by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University, and since 2020 he has been responsible for the undergraduate lectures in Language and Society (Li3). He has extensive experience in higher education teaching, research and management; and his research interests lie in the fields of translation policy, minoritized languages and legal translation and interpreting. At the moment, he serves in the editorial board of the International Journal for the Semiotics of Law (Springer) and the Journal of Language and Law.

Javier has supervised over 45 BA and MA dissertations in applied linguistics (task-based and project-based language teaching and learning, CLIL, languages for specific purposes), translation studies (legal, financial, medical and literary translation) and cultural studies (Spanish society and nationalism).
