Jocelyn Wyburd

Jocelyn has been Director of the Language Centre at the University of Cambridge since July 2011 following 12 years in a similar role at the University of Manchester. At Manchester she also held the roles of Director of External Relations and, subsequently, Director of Language Teaching and Learning for the School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures. She has particularly focussed on developing environments, infrastructure and curriculum which encourage and enhance student learner autonomy, and on the ways in which new technologies can be used to support language learning. 

Jocelyn has been active in outreach work to schools to promote and support language study while championing widening access agendas. In 2013 she was appointed Chair of the national Advisory Board for Routes into Languages. At Cambridge, she is ensuring the Language Centre continues its longstanding commitment to these agendas, through membership of the Routes East of England consortium and the organisation of widening participation activities related to languages in association with the Faculties of MML and AMES.

Nationally, Jocelyn has been  Chair of the University Council of Modern Languages (UCML) since January 2014.
