About
I am currently an MPhil student in Linguistics and Language Science at the University of Cambridge, specialising in psycholinguistics and experimental research methods. I have recently completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Edinburgh.
My research explores how people comprehend non-literal language (particularly sarcasm) across spoken and written communication. Despite experimental pragmatics and cognitive approaches to language comprehension, I'm also interested in the social side of communication, such as what a speaker's linguistic choices reveal about them and how social context shapes interpretation.
Methodologically, I usually work with eye-tracking (EyeLink 1000, SR Experiment Builder and DataViewer), self-paced reading (PCIbex and JavaScript) and visual-world paradigms (OpenSesame and Python), and I normally analyse the resulting data using linear mixed-effects and Bayesian modelling in R.
Beyond the lab I am active in student engagement and care about open science and science communication, including writing psychology articles for general audiences. More details about my previous research and activities are on my personal website.
