Bridging the Unbridgeable
For two days this summer, the University of Cambridge will be hosting the English Usage (Guides) Symposium as part of the Bridging the Unbridgeable Project, a research project on English usage based at Leiden University Centre for Linguistics. The symposium will take place on Thursday the 26 and Friday the 27 June at the English Faculty Building, 9 West Rd., Cambridge.
The symposium will celebrate the launch of the HUGE database (Hyper Usage Guide of English), the first database to combine more than two hundred years of usage advice into a single reference library, from Robert Baker's Reflections on the English Language in 1770 up to the present day.
A wonderfully varied group of speakers will give talks on English usage and usage guides from various perspectives.
