Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

We seek to appoint a part-time Research Assistant to join the Social Play; Social Lives team led by Dr Jenny Gibson at the centre for research on Play in Education, Development and Learning (PEDAL). The research assistant will work on a project that aims to further understanding of the role that play, games and friendships have in supporting social and emotional wellbeing as experienced by autistic individuals. The project will also investigate the views of families, teachers and other professionals regarding the nature and importance of play, games and friendship on autistic children. The post is funded by the LEGO Foundation.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team and will receive support and training. The main activities will involve; liaison with the autistic community to establish research priorities and to shape the research questions, literature review and synthesis, and, supporting the writing of papers and grant proposals.

Applicants will have an undergraduate degree in psychology, linguistics, child development/education, speech and language or a related subject, with an awareness of research governance, including the importance of confidentiality and data management. Experience of conducting detailed, systematic literature searches and writing research funding proposals would be advantageous.
